Ferrous Metal Collection
Ferrous Metals consist of metals which contain Iron. In fact, ferrous is derived from the Latin word ferrum, which means iron.
Ferrous metals include steel, iron bars, and any alloy (a combination of two or more metals) which contains a large amount of iron.
A surefire way to determine a type of metal is by its magnetic capability. If a magnet sticks to it, it is most likely a ferrous metal.
Non-Ferrous Metal Collection
Generally more expensive than ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals are used because of desirable properties such as low weight, higher conductivity, non-magnetic property and resistance to corrosion. Some non-ferrous materials are also used in the iron and steel industries.
Important non-ferrous metals include aluminium, copper, lead, nickel, tin, titanium and zinc, and alloys such as brass.
